VALPRO Path Webinar Showcases Lupin Innovation Across the Plant Protein Value Chain

The Horizon Europe VALPRO Path project, coordinated by Teagasc, will host a webinar on 29 April 2026, 11:00 – 12:00 CET, exploring the potential of lupin in building sustainable plant-protein value chains. Titled “Creating plant protein value chains – Lupin”, the session will present the latest insights from experts working across the value chain, highlighting how this versatile crop can contribute to more resilient and sustainable protein systems across Europe.

With increasing demand for sustainable and locally sourced protein crops, lupin is emerging as a promising ingredient for future food systems due to its high protein content, versatility, and suitability for European agriculture. This webinar will bring together research and industry perspectives to examine how lupin can support the development of innovative and commercially viable plant protein value chains across Europe

Webinar Highlights

The webinar will feature the latest research and expert insights from the VALPRO Path project:

• Yield Performance and Environmental Adaptability: Dr Muhammad Ahsan Asghar, Ph.D. (Aarhus University) will share research on lupin yield performance, protein content, and crop adaptability across varying environmental conditions, highlighting opportunities for cultivation within European farming systems.
• Food Applications and Protein Functionality: Dr Milena Corredig (Aarhus University) will discuss the use of lupin as a food ingredient, including protein isolation approaches, ingredient functionality, and its potential role in next-generation food products.
• Commercialisation and Product Development: Peter Downey (Wide Open Agriculture Germany) will provide industry insights into lupin-based product development, processing challenges, and opportunities for expanding plant-based food markets.

Following the presentations, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a live Q&A session, exploring key challenges and opportunities for advancing lupin-based value chains.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Dr Richard Lynch from Teagasc, VALPRO Path’s project manager, who will also introduce the project and moderate the session.
