Horizon4Protein
Collaborative Ventures: EU Projects Joining Forces for Sustainable Alternative Proteins
VALPRO Path is a proud member of Horizon4Proteins, a collaborative network of Horizon Europe projects advancing the future of alternative proteins.
Launched in 2021 by four EU-funded initiatives – NextGenProteins, ProFuture, Smart Protein, and SUSINCHAIN – Horizon4Proteins brings together expertise to tackle key challenges across the entire alternative protein value chain, including consumer acceptance, regulatory pathways, food applications, and sustainability.
Where Projects Meet, Ideas Grow
Collaboration among Horizon4Proteins projects has taken place through regular virtual meetings, joint webinars, and knowledge-sharing sessions, all aimed at aligning research priorities, exchanging best practices, and identifying opportunities for cross-project synergies.
For example, Dr. Jacqueline Lyons, Project Manager of the Smart Protein project, was a guest in one of the episodes of the VALPRO Path podcast, where she shared the results of Smart Protein and gave invaluable insights. Dr Morena Silvestrini, Head Coordinator of the LIKE-A-PRO project, was a speaker at the VALPRO Path webinar dedicated to optimising value chains to boost business prospects for alternative proteins. Dr Aoife O’Gorman, Project Manager of Protein-I project, also took part in the VALPRO Path podcast, where she discussed smart supply chains and plant proteins. Dr Fabienne Michel, post-doc researcher in the Consumer Behavior Group at ETH Zürich, representing the GIANT LEAPS project, participated in the VALPRO Path webinar on European consumer perceptions on plant-based proteins. Dr John Deely, research officer at Teagasc, participated in a VALPRO Path podcast sharing insights from the ComMEATted project.
